Whilst Day 2 had been a long and eventful one, Day 3 provided some welcome relief. I watched the final Mayweather and McGregor media conference from the MGM Grand online from my hotel room.
I then ventured myself to the MGM Grand around 4pm PDT for the Undercard fighters’ workouts.
When I arrived, I spotted a big Mayweather Promotions truck parked outside (I got a picture as I exited at the end), and I spotted none other than Gervonta Davis’s inspiring coach Calvin Ford, who I approached to point me in the right direction.
Sadly, I missed the start of the workouts, including Great Britain’s Savannah Williams, a recent Mayweather Promotions signing and fighting her pro debut on the August 26th undercard.
I did, however, see Francisco Fonseca, Andrew Tabiti, Badou Jack, Nathan Cleverly and Gervonta Davis. Each fighter spent about 5 minutes in the ring showing off their stuff, before being given a short interview, and then helping to sign gloves, and throw T-shirts into the crowd. Being smack back in the middle of the MGM, on the edge of the casino, there was a consistent crowd throughout the duration.
As I mentioned in my summary video, it was interesting to note the mood, demeanour and body language of each fighter, in addition to how comfortable they looked doing their things in the ring amongst a crowd; Gervonta Davis is notably understated in comparison to, say, Andrew Tabiti who was really lapping up the occasion as he showed off his padwork and coordination with none other than Floyd Mayweather Sr.
Gervonta’s workout was the last, and he signed some gloves, tentatively handing them out as he walked out of the ring with the crowd on his right hand side.
And that was it. The crowds started to filters away as the dismantling of the ring took place. I recorded my summary video, and I headed out of the hotel, again spotting coach Calvin Ford with a couple of other Team Gervonta Davis members waiting to be collected, and I took my chance to take a picture of The TMT (The Money Team) truck, before heading on my way.
